Lion
The word lion can usually mean all the Felidae Panthenera family in general or can stand for a single male lion. As the word lioness stands for the female lion and a cub is a baby lion / lioness.
The magestic lion is a member of the cat family, whose demeanour and charisma has captured the imagination of humans since earliest times. The lion has two constellations named after him, "Leo Major" and "Leo Minor". There have been movies made about the lion, "The Lion King", "Born Free" and "Ghost in the Mist, just to name a couple.
The lion has been pets and possessions of rulers, sometimes worshipped and sometimes treated very cruelly. It has been said that Julius Caesar killed 400 of them to celebrate the opening of his forum. On the other hand, lions have been gods and body parts of gods and all have been passed down in legends and beliefs for centuries.
However, unlike the Roman days when lions were in large numbers, lions are threatened to soon become extinct. Tribes in Africa still hunt lions as they find it an important ritual, deforestation is making lions territories smaller and smaller and farmers still blame lions for loss of stock. These are a few examples of peoles ignorance on this special animal, even though there are now reserves to protect a small amount of lions, when will people wake up and learn how special these animals are before it is to late.
